4 buses in Mirpur set on fire ahead of blockade, 3 people taken into custody

Four busses set on fire in the Mirpur neighborhood of the capital on Tuesday (November 14) night , preceding the opposition parties’ announcement of a blockade today.

Sources from the Civil Defense and Fire Services indicate that the initial incident was reported at approximately 8:20 p.m.

Around 8:20 pm, they reported, two buses in the Beribadh neighborhood of Mirpur-1 caught fire. The fire was quickly put out by two firefighting units from the Kallyanpur fire station that arrived on scene.

An hour later, at around 9:30 pm, a BRTC bus was set on fire in the Mirpur-10 neighborhood. A single fire engine from the Mirpur fire station arrived on the scene and put out the fire.

According to DMP ADC Media K N Niyoti Roy, three people have been arrested in connection with the event; it is said that the individuals were BNP activists.

Two people were detained based on information he provided during questioning, while one person was apprehended without assistance.

Shahidur Islam, 20, Md. Hafizur Rahman, 31, and Md. Shamim, 45, are the people that were arrested.

Meanwhile, in the Beribadh neighborhood of Mirpur, at approximately 11:00 p.m., an arson assault occurred on a Shuktara Paribahan bus.

Two units from the Kalyanpur fire station arrived at the scene at approximately 11:15 and began putting out the fire, according to fire service authorities.

The Fire Service and Civil Defense report that during the 16-day period from October 28 to November 13, there were, on average, over nine arson incidents nationwide.

According to the fire service, there have been at least 154 arson incidents nationwide in the last 16 days.

At least five people were hurt in the nation during this time, two of them were firefighters.
